Quite rubbish and typical to be totally honest with you. The only car that sticks out like a sore thumb is the Golf but the only car that actually appeals to me is the black C63 AMG Edition 507 Coupe.

Why don't footballers/soccer players just sit down one day and do a bit of research on cars? They have a fugly taste in cars. I'm not saying the Cayenne or the Range Rover are rubbish cars, I'm saying that they probably only buy it because it makes them look cool?

A lot of footballers are quite simple. The only thing they can is football, so researching for a car would be a lot of unnecessary work when they don't really have an interest for cars, but want to look cool.

One of the American goalies, Tim Howard I think, is crazy about cars.

I really can't remember, because it was 2006 or so when I heard this.

If you make all your money using your legs and live in a wet place, why wouldn't you buy a large suv/sedan with lots of safety features? I'm sure a couple guys have some nicer weekend toys, but it's not like all of Oppo drives their drop top MG or their cherry mustang/camaro/gto/etc. to work every day.

From what I've heard, a lot of it's joking about between young men with loads of money. The notorious custom Bentley Michael Ireland bought for his girlfriend is a case in point:

It got a lot more attention than the interview where he confirmed it was a bit of a joke for him to do all the things she likes, in the ugliest, gaudiest, 'I'm-a-pikey-and-everyone-laughs-at-us' way possible.
